KSI reveals Wayne Bridge apology in private message sent after upsetting former Chelsea star with John Terry jibe

Social media personality KSI has revealed that he sent a message of apology to Wayne Bridge after upsetting the former Chelsea star with a joke about John Terry.

KSI, 31, whose real name is Olijade Oluntji, was due to fight Bridge, 44, in a boxing match in Manchester on March 29, only for the latter to pull out of the bout after claiming that the YouTube star had ‘crossed a line’.

The social media sensation aimed a jibe at Bridge in relation to his ex-girlfriend’s alleged affair with John Terry.

Just over a month after Bridge pulled out of the fight – doing so just two days after it was originally announced – KSI has shared the apology he sent to Bridge.

Speaking on his podcast, KSI said that he made the joke in an attempt to increase pay-per-view sales (PPVs) for his fight with Bridge.

The YouTube star stated: ‘I privately DM’d him. And the thing is, I messaged him like, ”Bro, I’m not a d***head…”

‘But we’re selling the fight and I thought he should know that.’

KSI added: ‘Wayne Bridge, I’m sorry. I’ve told you in DMs anyway but yeah, my bad.’

It comes after he taunted Bridge by asking him: ‘Aren’t you the guy that let John Terry smash your ex?’

Bridge looked taken aback before responding: ‘You want to go there straight away do you?’

KSI did not hold back as he continued: ‘I’m pretty sure that’s what you’re known for’ before proceeding to lead the crowd in a chant, singing: ‘Vanessa woah, Vanessa woah’.

Bridge dated former model Vanessa Perroncel for four years after the pair first met in 2005 and gave birth to their son, Jaydon Jean Claude, in November 2006, before they split in 2009.

Later that year, the News of the World alleged that Terry had been involved in a romantic relationship with Vanessa, who was still dating Bridge at the time the allegations were published.

The pair had been close friends for a number of years and, at one time, were even neighbours in a gated community in Surrey.

Wayne played alongside John at Chelsea – where the pair won two Premier League titles under Jose Mourinho – for five years until he moved to Manchester City in 2008.

While Perroncel denounced the credibility of the story, which later prompted the newspaper to issue an apology, Bridge refused to shake Terry’s hand ahead of Manchester City’s clash with Chelsea in 2010.

Both players were also goaded over the situation by rival supporters, with the fall-out causing Wayne to announce his retirement from international football in 2010, so that he could avoid Terry in the England setup, where the latter was captain at the time.

Bridge is now married and has two children with The Saturdays singer Frankie Sandford.

Releasing a statement following KSI’s comments, he wrote: ‘I’m sure a lot of you have seen what happened on Saturday night at the Misfits Boxing event.

‘Firstly, I think it’s important that I explain my reason for accepting the fight. I always like to challenge myself. This felt like a good opportunity to go up against an interesting opponent on a big stage.

‘I have always loved boxing as part of my everyday training routine. I was fully prepared to train hard and have some fun. Of course, I expected to face some criticism, but I feel like what was said on Saturday crossed a line.

‘These are deeply personal comments that affect mine and other families involved in the situation. I’m a family man first and my priority is protecting them.

‘My opponent is someone that many children look up to around the, including my kids. I hope one day he will look back on this differently. I personally don’t want to be involved in these exchanges. I will no longer be fighting on March 29.

‘I’m still looking out for my next big challenge and have some exciting things coming up in 2025. Thanks for all the love. The support has been overwhelming.

‘I want my friends and family to know how special they are. Deep down I know this is the right thing to do.’
