Queen Maxima’s Style at the State Banquet in Kenya

The state visit of the King and Queen of the Netherlands to Kenya has not only strengthened cooperation between the two nations, but also provided an opportunity to appreciate, once again, Queen Maxima’s impeccable sense of style.

At the gala dinner hosted by President William Ruto at State House in Nairobi, the Dutch monarch turned heads in a sophisticated outfit.

For this special occasion, Maxima opted to reuse one of her most memorable pieces: a golden silk satin skirt by designer Claes Iversen.

This design, which stands out for its midnight blue guipure lace and delicate sequins, has been part of her closet since 2016 and has accompanied the queen on high-profile events.

Previously, she paired it with a matching blouse at that year’s Prinsjesdag and, on another occasion, wore it with a gold top at the celebration of the 80th birthday of the kings of Norway.

However, on this evening in Nairobi, Máxima decided to give her look a makeover by choosing a navy blue silk top with a subtle ribbed effect, a change that further highlighted the details of the skirt.

This twist in her styling reaffirmed the harmony between gold and blue, a combination that she has been able to wear with elegance in different appearances.

Jewelry with history and meaning

Her choice of accessories did not go unnoticed. To complete her outfit, Maxima opted for pieces from her personal collection that have acquired an almost emblematic character in her style.

The star of the evening was undoubtedly the sapphire tiara, a versatile piece of jewelry that was originally conceived as a diamond and sapphire necklace, but can be transformed into a tiara thanks to a special base.

Alongside the tiara, the queen complemented her look with matching earrings and bracelet, maintaining the harmony between the golden tones and the deep blue of the precious stones.

With this elegant styling, Máxima closed the first day of her state visit to Kenya, where she and King Willem-Alexander have been received with great hospitality.
