Jose Mourinho remarkably pinched the nose of Galatasaray boss Okan Buruk as Fenerbahce were beaten in a fiery Istanbul derby on Wednesday.

Mourinho’s side suffered a disappointing 2-1 defeat in the clash, which came in the quarter-final of the Turkish Cup.

However, the game was marred by a chaotic ending, trigged by Mourinho that saw three players — Fenerbahce’s Mert Yandas and Galatasaray’s Kerem Demirbay and Baris Yilmaz —  sent off.

As the game reached its conclusion, Mourinho clashed with Buruk as he made his way onto the pitch. The Portuguese coach was clearly unhappy with something and was seen pinching his counterpart’s nose.

Buruk fell to the floor after the incident as players from both sides rushed in, with the Galatasaray boss left clutching his nose and face. The resulting melee led to the three red cards in the second minute of second half stoppage time.

Mourinho was subsequently pulled away from the scene by a member of his coaching staff.

While the former Chelsea, Man United and Tottenham boss escaped punishment on the night, he could be hit with a retrospective ban following the clash — which quickly went viral on social media.

It was a fiery end to a miserable night for Mourinho as his side crashed out of the cup. Victor Osimhen grabbed both of Galatasaray’s goals while Sebastian Szymanski scored for Fenerbahce.

There was already no love lost between the two managers with Mourinho filing a lawsuit against Galatasaray in February after the club accused him of making racist statements.

Mourinho, speaking after a 0-0 draw in the Turkish derby, said the Galatasaray bench had been ‘jumping like monkeys’.

Mourinho’s side trail their great rivals in the league also with Galatasaray boasting a six-point lead, albeit having played one match more.

It is not the first time Mourinho has been involved in a physical altercation with an opposing coach. He caused outrage in Spain in 2011 when he poked Barcelona assistant Tito Vilanova in the eye during his spell as Real Madrid boss.

He was initially suspended for two matches for the incident — although this was lifted due to a wider amnesty on bans. Mourinho eventually apologised for the incident in 2021.

‘I was the one in the wrong, I shouldn’t have done what I did. Of course not, that negative image stays forever. Tito had nothing to do with it. I apologise to him,’ he said.
