Is Mauro Icardi’s new girlfriend trying to copy his ex? How China Suarez shows off VERY similar looks to love rival and Queen WAG Wanda Nara

It was one of football’s most controversial romances with Mauro Icardi and his estranged wife Wanda Nara rarely out of the headlines during their doomed ten-year marriage.

The couple tied the knot less than a year after Nara, 38, divorced the Argentine’s former team-mate Maxi López in 2014, and separations, cheating rumours and tears followed.

The couple, who share two children, are currently in the midst of divorce proceedings and Nara, a model and TV host who also acted as Icardi’s agent, is reportedly demanding €38million (£32.28m) from her ex.

Nara, described as the undisputed Queen WAG, even shared X-rated sex text messages from the Galatasaray striker after she told him it was over, with the 31-year-old forward begging for his estranged wife to take him back.

Icardi finally looked to have moved on from a decade of drama as he confirmed his new relationship with China Suarez in January with a romantic Instagram post where he described their companionship as ‘fate’.   

But Suarez, 33, an Argentine model and actress, who reportedly had an affair with the striker in 2021, now appears to be copying her love rival with a string of Instagram posts where she has sported some very similar looks.

First there were the sultry bed poses. 

In August, Nara posted an intimate snap in bed wearing nothing but lingerie. Holding a camera with a tattoo of her daughter’s name, Isabella, visible across her left arm, she wrote: ‘But if I know you’re dying to, let’s make a video like Wanda Nara’.

Suarez treated her 7.8million followers to an equally racy selfie in February, simply captioned with a black love heart.

Nara, who reportedly left Icardi furious after being seen kissing Argentine rapper L-Gante in a music video in 2022, uploaded a risqué selfie promoting her underwear line.

Icardi’s new partner later posted an almost identical bikini-clad selfie.

Meanwhile, the competing WAGs both have similar loved up photographs with the Argentine forward on their Instagram pages.

Nara shared an up close picture kissing her former lover and wrote: ‘You taught me loyalty is worth more then money,’ adding ‘you are the most generous and attentive person I have ever met’.

While Suarez posted a photo of the new couple smooching in a swimming pool with two love emojis.

Icardi’s past and present even share almost indistinguishable outfits. 

Nara, who reportedly dated 21-year-old Formula One driver Franco Colapinto last year, shared a mid-workout selfie wearing a black Nike active wear sports bra.

In February, Icardi’s new love interest posted a picture wearing an almost identical top.  

Last week, Suarez shared an intimate series of snaps with her boyfriend while wearing a red baseball cap. 

And only last month Nara posed with a similarly coloured cap as she celebrated a child’s birthday.

Another almost indistinguishable post sees the jet-setting duo share aeorplane selfies. 

Last month, Nara accidentally shared more than she intended to with her 17.5million Instagram followers.

The model uploaded a wholesome photo of a family dinner, but that was not all.

Rather than sharing the original image, she appeared to upload a screenshot taken from her phone’s camera roll.

The screenshot also included 15 tiny previews of other images. Six of those images were topless photos.

After noticing her mistake, Nara quickly deleted her post.

 Once described as ‘one of the most revolutionary women of the past 100 years’, Nara has never strayed far from the cameras.

 Her relationship with Icardi began after she accused ex-husband López of cheating on her with their housekeeper. 

While she insisted she did not start dating Icardi until after the couple were divorced, López felt betrayed – not only by Nara but also by Icardi, a former Sampdoria team-mate, nine years his junior, whom he had taken under his wing.

The episode infamously culminated in the ‘Wanda derby’ between Inter Milan and Sampdoria, in which López refused to shake hands with Icardi.

Icardi went on to have the names of López’s three sons – all of whom López and Nara had together – tattooed on his arm, possibly in response to complaints from López about his former team-mate posting pictures of the children online.

Nara is also seeking compensation from the 31-year-old relating to her role as his former agent.

As Icardi’s agent, a role she took up in 2016 after the striker ended his business partnership with Spanish agent Abian Morana, Nara single-handedly took on the Italian football establishment. 

‘In Italy, I am considered one of the most powerful agents, like Mino Raiola,’ she declared after just a year in the job. ‘How much will I earn? As much as a normal agent. But Mauro and I are married, so what is his is also mine.’ 

Icardi’s salary rose markedly on his wife’s watch, with a lucrative contract extension, signed in October 2016, taking his annual income to an estimated £3.7 million a year.

Performance-related bonuses promised further riches, while the balance sheet of World Marketing Football, a company Nara established to manage Icardi’s image rights and sponsorship deals, became ever more robust.

Yet Nara did not neglect her own interests. She launched a fashion line, Wan Collection, aimed at busy mothers.

Her Instagram following grew, outstripping her husband’s (Nara currently has 17.5 million followers to Icardi’s 13.9 million).

Icardi told Argentinian gossip show Socios del Espectáculo that his wife ‘twists everything for her own agenda’. 

And she became a co-presenter and pundit on Tiki Taka, an Italian football show.

The last of those roles proved problematic, however. Comments made by Nara on TV created uncertainty about Icardi’s future at the San Siro, while her criticism of his team-mates caused division within the dressing room.

The situation came to a head in February 2019, when Icardi was stripped of the Inter captaincy and relegated to the bench after Nara urged the club ‘to sign someone capable of giving him five good balls in every game’.

Her comments sparked outrage within Italian football.

‘If my wife spoke about my team-mates like that in public, I would kick her out of the house,’ snapped Alessandro Costacurta, the former AC Milan defender, in a comment for which he would later apologise.

‘Wanda Nara speaks every week on TV about the situation of Mauro,’ said Sky Italia’s Matteo Barzaghi.

‘And often she speaks about Inter, about Mauro’s team-mates, and she talks about some aspects that players only know in their dressing room.

‘So many players are angry with Mauro, because he doesn’t stop his wife from talking.’

Morana, Icardi’s former agent, swiped at his successor.

‘Mauro has lost control of his career,’ he said. ‘Wanda isn’t a representative.

‘Mauro will do a lot better when he goes back to prominence for what he does on the pitch rather than the insistent cries for attention of his agent.’

Nara hit back – describing herself as ‘revolutionary’. 

‘This is a very macho world, and what I’m doing is revolutionary,’ she told the Italian magazine Gente.

‘Although there are many relatives who represent players, the role of women in football is more linked to ‘staying at home with the kids and keeping quiet.’

‘That’s why I’m a revolutionary. I have friends who are wives of players, and many laugh at me.

‘They see that what I’m doing as strange, but they’ve asked me to represent their husbands because they know me, they know how I act and defend my interests.’

The controversial WAG was later heckled in stadiums, while her car was reportedly hit by a rock while she was driving. She also shed tears on TV.

‘I was putting on paper his desires,’ Nara later reflected. ‘Of course, it’s easier to blame a girl, especially in a sexist world like football. A few years ago, I had to send a man to replace me to sign a contract because a club president refused to deal with a woman.’ 

As well as criticism Nara won admirers for her role as an agent. 

Italian journalist Selvaggia Lucarelli wrote: ‘In a world where a woman, at most, can have her say on [Cristiano] Ronaldo in his underwear on Yamamay posters, Nara is one of the most revolutionary women of the past 100 years.’ 

Her bitter divorce battle with Icardi continues to rumble on and in a recent appearance on the Argentine TV show LAM, Nara revealed Icardi had vowed to ‘destroy’ her when she asked for a divorce.

Nara also claimed Icardi had since bought her dream house – a $4million (£3.1m) mansion in Argentina that she had planned to share with Icardi when he retired – for him and Suarez to live in.

‘Seeing this woman uploading photos in the house I dreamed of for my daughters breaks my soul,’ Nara said.

‘That house is mine because Mauro bought it when we were married. In Argentina there is no division of property. That house will be my daughters’ and mine too. This is not a separation, it is a constant provocation.’

Their ugly divorce also saw police evict Icardi from her home near Buenos Aires three days before the striker had a knee operation.

Officers woke the Galatasaray striker up in the early hours of the morning after the model and influencer reported him for threatening her during an argument over his alleged refusal to move out of the property.

Icardi is in his third season in Turkey after moving from Paris Saint-Germain. Before that he spent 7 years at Inter Milan, and was capped for Argentina eight times.
