Erling Haaland says he is not afraid of Manchester City being punished in football’s ‘legal case of the century’.
Manchester City are awaiting the results of the trial into their 115 alleged breaches of the Premier League’s financial rules.
They are accused of a number of offences over a nine-year period between 2009 and 2018 including failing to provide accurate details on player and manager contracts, failing to provide accurate financial information and failing to co-operate with the Premier League’s subsequent investigation. City have always denied wrongdoing.
Should they be found guilty of the more serious alleged breaches, relegation is the most severe punishment possible while the club also risk hefty fines and points deductions.
But Haaland – who in January penned a nine-and-a-half-year contract extension, with total earnings believed to be close to £1million per week – insists he does not fear the spectre of punishments.
‘I’m obviously not afraid of that if I sign a 9.5-year contract,’ he told Fotball Norge.

Haaland would have no shortage of suitors if the worst did happen for City – the Norwegian has bagged 29 goals in all competitions, following up casual totals of 52 and 38 in his first two seasons in Manchester.
Of the 115 charges, City are facing 54 allegations of a failure to provide accurate and up-to-date financial information to the league from 2009-10 to 2017-18.
This allows the FFP a ‘true and fair’ view of a club’s revenue which includes sponsorship deals and their operating cost, which involve player salaries.
Thirty-five of the charges City face relate to their alleged failure to cooperate with the Premier League investigation into their conduct between December 2018 and February 2023.
Every club in the Premier League signs up to a code of compliance, which essentially translates to clubs agreeing to behave themselves and provide the league with accurate and up-to-date accounts that are expected to be audited each year.
Over the past few years City have been accused of inflating the value of their sponsorships which are connected to their owners.
They are also facing 14 charges for a failure to provide accurate financial reports for player and manager compensation for those seasons.
