Newcastle defender Dan Burn has revealed he was involved in a minor car crash before helping others push their broken-down vehicles to safety.

Burn was caught up in a slight collision near Annitsford in Northumberland over the weekend and videos circulated of him pushing other cars safely off a roundabout.

The 32-year-old, who was not injured in the incident, then played his part on the pitch as his side beat Manchester United 4-1 at St James’ Park to move up to fourth.

Burn told Chronicle Live: ‘I was on Moor Farm roundabout. It is quite bad for crashes because it is quite confusing for people.

‘The guy hit my truck and somebody has then hit him. The airbags went off and stuff, I got out and checked my truck and somebody asked if I could help push the car.

‘Somebody clipped the tyre. You are not going to do a lot of damage on my car. I was just helping. I was on the road but it was deceivingly heavy.

‘I thought I was going to get it off no bother. It was nice people took photos instead of helping. But it was my part of the community spirit. I am actually sick of seeing myself in the press at the minute, I am trying to keep my head down.’

The crash took place around 10 miles from Newcastle’s stadium.

One video, taken from inside a nearby vehicle, showed Burn assisting two other people in pushing the troubled car.

In the video, a child can be heard asking: ‘Mum, is that actually Dan Burn?’

The parent replies: ‘It is, aye. Absolute legend.’

Burn had already secured legendary status on Tyneside by scoring at Wembley last month in Newcastle’s 2-1 win over Liverpool in the Carabao Cup final.

Five days after that famous final, which saw Newcastle end their 70-year wait for a major domestic trophy, Burn returned to Wembley to make his England debut.

The towering 6ft 7in defender, who grew up just a short drive away in Blyth is known for his down-to-earth personality despite his rise to stardom.

Supporters were quick to praise the 32-year-old online.

One X (formerly Twitter) user commented: ‘Dan Burn helping to push a broken down car off of Moor Farm roundabout earlier today. He is just a top lad isn’t he?’

Another message read: ‘Dan Burn living up to his local legend status.’

A third tweet quipped: ‘Wins Carabao Cup, pushes cars, owns PL attackers… What can’t Dan Burn do?’

Burn previously spoke of his delight after helping Newcastle win a trophy and earning a senior international call-up in the same week.

In an interview with Sky Sports on the pitch following the Carabao Cup final at Wembley, he declared: ‘I’ve had worse weeks! I don’t want to go to sleep because I feel like I’m dreaming and it’s all going to be a lie.

‘I don’t get many [goals] so I saved it for a big occasion.’
