Cristiano Ronaldo has announced a shock career move that will see him begin a ‘new chapter’ away from the pitch.
Currently plying his trade for Saudi Pro League side Al-Nassr, Ronaldo, 40, is opening a new business venture as he enters the twilight of his playing days.
This will see him partner with filmmaker Matthew Vaughn, 54, the producer of Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels and the director of gangster films such as Snatch, and Layer Cake.
Ronaldo and Vaughn’s collaboration will see them launch a brand named UR MARV, an independent film studio which will focus on ’embracing innovative technology with a nod to tradition’.
A statement posted to Ronaldo’s official account on X, formerly Twitter, said: ‘Cristiano Ronaldo loves movies; Matthew Vaughn loves sport – and they both love a good story.
‘Both have been disruptive champions at their game and will now combine the world of sport and storytelling through the launch of UR MARV, an independent joint venture film studio embracing innovative technology, with a nod to tradition.’

Ronaldo added: ‘This is an exciting chapter for me, as I look ahead to new ventures in business.’
Vaughan also stated: ‘Cristiano has created stories on the pitch that I could never have written, and I look forward to creating inspiring movies with him – he’s a real-life superhero.’
It is far from the first venture Ronaldo has explored outside of football, as he is also the owner of his own hotel chain alongside a line of perfumes and a clothing brand.
Ronaldo went into business with the Madeira based Pestana Group in 2015, which is owned by millionaire Dionisio Pestana and founded by his father Manuel.
The tourism and leisure group also boasted a series of hotels across Portugal but joined forces with Ronaldo in a 50/50 partnership to open a chain under his CR7 brand.
Five have been established to date with Lisbon and Funchal the two Portuguese locations of CR7 hotels, while the chain also includes a hotel at Times Square in New York, as well as Madrid and Marrakech.
‘The first Pestana CR7 had to be in Funchal – my city that also is considered the best island by the World Travel Awards,’ Ronaldo said at the 2016 unveiling of his first hotel.
‘It is a great pride for me – the opening of this my first hotel. It marks my entrance into a completely new area. This new project is going to be a huge success in the four corners of the world.’

Unsurprisingly the boutique hotels have promised luxury, with the Funchal hotel claiming its guests will enjoy the lifestyle they deserve.
The hotel features a pink-coloured infinity pool, gym, sauna and outdoor hot tub, while guests receive free admission to the Cristiano Ronaldo museum.
Ronaldo is also claimed to have designed training sessions at the hotel’s open air gym.
Unsurprisingly, sport is billed as a major theme of each of the CR7 hotels, while the rooms in the New York location are influenced by the colours and art of Portugal.
