Arsenal fans can officially start dreaming of Munich. After a resounding 9-3 aggregate victory over PSV Eindhoven, Mikel Arteta’s side now turns its attention to a showdown against Real Madrid in the Champions League quarter-finals.

The Gunners enjoyed a stress-free second leg in the Netherlands, resting several stars following their 1-1 league draw at Old Trafford, and still had more than enough firepower to finish the job against PSV.

Arsenal’s dominant win over PSV secures Champions League quarter-final spot

It was never really in doubt for Arsenal, who arrived in Eindhoven with a hefty first-leg advantage. Oleksandr Zinchenko capped off a confident start by curling in a fine early goal, while Ivan Perisic, once a Tottenham player, produced a flash of skill to equalise for PSV. Any sign of a comeback was quickly snuffed out, though, when Declan Rice powered home a header to restore Arsenal’s lead on the night (and push the aggregate score beyond reach). Late in the match, a slip from Jorginho allowed PSV to level once more, but it mattered little in the grand scheme of things, as Arsenal cruised through 9-3 overall.

Real Madrid await in a classic Champions League quarter-final

Where Arsenal’s round of 16 tie was relatively one-sided, Real Madrid’s passage was much tighter. Carlo Ancelotti’s men needed penalties to defeat their Spanish opponents, with Vinicius Junior missing from the spot in normal time. Madrid’s Champions League pedigree, however, saw them through in the shootout—something Gunners fans will be wary of, especially given the memories of that dramatic 2016 final. The first leg of this quarter-final clash takes place at the Emirates on Tuesday, 8 April, before shifting to the Santiago Bernabéu on Wednesday, 16 April.

Key Champions League dates on the road to Munich

Before locking horns with Real, Arsenal faces Premier League fixtures against Chelsea, Fulham, and Everton—crucial matches in their own right. Arteta will hope to have Bukayo Saka fully fit by April, when the Gunners’ domestic and European ambitions collide. Should Arsenal prevail over Real Madrid, they’ll meet either Paris Saint-Germain or Aston Villa in the semi-finals.

The ultimate destination, of course, is the Champions League final in Munich. With Barcelona, Bayern Munich, and Borussia Dortmund all still in the mix on the other side of the draw, the road won’t be easy. Yet Arsenal’s emphatic dismissal of PSV proves they have the quality to challenge Europe’s elite. Fans can now count down the weeks until the quarter-final kick-off, believing wholeheartedly that this could be the season the Gunners go all the way.
