Chelsea and Man City hooligans forced to surrender their passports for FIVE WEEKS ahead of Club World Cup

Known troublemakers who support Manchester City and Chelsea will be forced to surrender their passports for the duration of the Club World Cup this summer. 

Around 150 fans will be unable to travel to United States while the competition is being staged.

Letters demanding they surrender their travel documents to the police will be sent out in the next few days.

Failure to comply could result in an six-month prison term or an unlimited fine. 

The measure with therefore prohibit any supporter of the two clubs who have a football banning orders. 

In February, the Home Office announced that during the 2023-24 there were 2,584 football-related arrests, a 14 per cent increase (+320) compared with the previous campaign.

The rise was driven by an increase in arrests for the possession of class A drugs (+144) and arrests made in England and Wales relating to overseas tournaments (+180). As a results, a total of 2,172 football banning orders were in force in England and Wales with, 825 new banning orders issued, an increase of 21 per cent.

Policing Minister Dame Diane Johnson said: ‘Many Manchester City and Chelsea fans will want to travel to support their teams in this summer’s tournament and we want them all to do so safely and enjoyably. 

‘But for the tiny minority of troublemakers who use football as an excuse for criminality, we will be applying the same proven preventative measures that we have successfully done for other overseas tournaments.

‘As part of the Safer Streets Mission and the government’s Plan for Change, we will continue to crack down on the hooligan minority, so that the vast majority can carry on attending football without trouble’

City and Chelsea will compete in the new 32-team tournament that runs from June 14 to July 13.
