On Monday, March 17, 2025, the Princess of Wales, Kate Middleton, resumed her public engagements by participating in the St. Patrick’s Day celebration with the Irish Guards.
Her presence marked a significant return after a period of absence. In fact, the princess did not attend the event last year as she was undergoing cancer treatment.

The Princess of Wales made a triumphant return to the St. Patrick’s Day parade organized by the Irish Guards at Wellington Barracks, London, on Monday, March 17.

Since 2022, Princess Kate has held the title of Honorary Colonel of the regiment and, for the first time, attended the event solo in this ceremonial role.
The event marked her first military engagement since announcing on January 14 that she was in remission following cancer treatment.

Dressed festively in a bespoke dark green coat by Alexander McQueen, complemented by a matching beret by Awon Golding for Lock & Co., Princess Kate upheld the tradition of handing out sprigs of shamrock to officers and guards, who then distributed them among their ranks.
She also received a sprig herself, which she wore alongside the Irish Guards’ golden shamrock-shaped brooch.

Additionally, the Princess presented the regimental mascot, an Irish wolfhound, with a shamrock pinned to its fur.
Following the parade, Kate Middleton, who gave a royal salute from her position, met with Irish Guards veterans and young cadets, known as “Mini Micks,” from Northern Ireland.

Afterwards, the Princess of Wales expressed her enthusiasm for supporting the next generation of Army leaders.
“You get to try so many different things there. Within the military, there are so many career paths you can take. It’s so exciting,” she commented to a young man recently inducted into the Army Cadets. She added, “Actually, it’s one of the things that I’m very keen to support, that recruitment side.”
