Arsenal legend Jens Lehmann ‘threw up and struggled to stand’ in drink-driving arrest while in his Oktoberfest lederhosen, after split from wife and chainsaw attack on neighbour’s house

Former Arsenal goalkeeper Jens Lehmann threw up several times and struggled to stand unaided when pulled over by police after allegedly drink driving, a report outlining new details of his September arrest has claimed.

The 55-year-old was reportedly stopped by police at around 1:30am while in lederhosen after enjoying Oktoberfest celebrations in his home country last year.

A report by Bild at the time claimed that the former Germany No 1 was staggering and smelled of alcohol, and that he had to be taken to the police station to undergo further tests because he couldn’t complete breath tests.

The outlet has released new details of the night, in which they reveal Lehmann’s state when stopped by law enforcement while driving an Audi S3.

It is claimed that the stench of alcohol on Lehmann was so profuse that officers could smell it through his open window. He is then reported to have struggled to locate his driver’s licence, instead producing his ID card before eventually finding his licence after several unsuccessful attempts.

Lehmann was then asked to show his warning triangle and first-aid kit, however, when opening his boot, he struggled to stand and was forced to hold onto the car to stay upright, the report claims.

Furthermore, is it now alleged that Lehmann failed a breathalyzer test and he vomited on at least two occasions, the second time after staggering to the roadside.

Lehmann was taken to the Munich Institute of Forensic Medicine for blood tests.

The Munich public prosecutor’s office requested a fine of £60,000. The former stopper has filed an appeal, with a trial set for Thursday April 3.

His driver’s licence has been confiscated.

The latest incident is the latest in a string of controversies that have plagued the former keeper in recent months.

Last year he was fined £112,500 after being found guilty of property damage and attempted fraud by a German court. Arsenal’s No 1 goalkeeper during their Invincibles season in the 2003-04 campaign was accused of using a chainsaw to saw through the roof beams of a newly-built garage on his neighbour’s property in the summer of 2022.

The verdict came after Lehmann appealed the initial ruling that saw him handed a suspended prison sentence and a fine of more than £350,000.

Criminal charges were dropped after Lehmann reached an out-of-court settlement with his neighbour said to be in excess of £50,000.

He was also on trial for dodging parking fines which are said to have since been paid.

In a difficult month for the former Gunner, reports last September also claimed that Lehmann’s personal struggles had led to the end of his marriage to his wife Conny, 52 – who runs a yoga school.

The pair met in 1995, before they officially got together in 1999, marrying in October of that year.

Conny, who was previously in a relationship with former Borussia Dortmund and Germany midfielder Knut Reinhardt, has two children with Lehmann, Mats, 24 and Lieselotta, 18. Lehmann also adopted Conny’s child from her time with Reinhardt.

She was by the Arsenal star’s side throughout his time in the game and helped him through various tough moments.

According to Bild, the couple have been in an on-off relationship for some time, with Conny since finding a new partner. She is said to be living apart from Lehmann, who remains in the family home with their children.

They did go on holiday as a family last summer, but the report claimed that was for the benefit of the children rather than any romantic feelings between the pair.

At Oktoberfest, things came to a head when Conny was reportedly seen with friends, while Lehmann was pictured having fun with several young women in a separate area.

Lehmann is thought to be a regular at the festival, having been pictured during celebrations alongside Didier Drogba in 2011 and with Invincibles team-mate Sol Campbell in 2012.

He was also dropped by Stuttgart in 2009 for partying at the event without permission.

Lehmann made 200 appearances in all competitions for the Gunners and was part of Arsene Wenger’s Invincibles that won the Premier League in 2003-04 without tasting defeat.

He hung up his gloves following a second spell in north London in 2011 and has gone on to work in coaching, punditry and acting.
