Anthony Gordon set to MISS Carabao Cup final against Liverpool – after Newcastle star is SENT OFF for lashing out at Brighton defender in FA Cup clash

Anthony Gordon has been sent off for Newcastle after shoving Jan Paul Van Hecke in their FA Cup tie against Brighton.
Gordon was shown a straight red card for throwing his hands in the face of Van Hecke after losing out on a challenge to the defender.
It means that the Englishman will miss his side’s Carabao Cup final tie against Liverpool on March 16 as he will be subject to a three-game ban.
While the Magpies suffered a blow by being reduced to ten men, they were down a man for only a matter of minutes.
Brighton’s Tariq Lamptey was given a second yellow card for a late challenge on Jacob Murphy.
With both sides reduced to 10 men, the tie headed to extra-time with the score level at 1-1 after 90 minutes.

But Danny Welbeck scored the winner with a composed chip as penalties loomed on Tyneside.
Alexander Isak had given the home the lead in the 22nd minute after Yankuba Minteh’s late foul on Tino Livramento.
But Minteh made amends for his earlier error by Minteh by equalising against his former club just before half-time.
Newcastle thought they had won the game in the dying moments of regular time after a fine finish from Fabian Schar, only for the goal to be disallowed for offside.
The goal was confirmed as being offside by semi-automated offside technology, which is being used in English football for the first time this weekend.
Defeat will be a bitter pill to swallow for the men in black and white given they were down a man for such a short period.
However, they do still have a shot at silverware this season with the first trophy of the season up for grabs in two weeks’ time.
They will have to do so without Gordon – whose red card will be a major headache to his manager Eddie Howe, who will have to do without Gordon for the final.

Howe will also be sweating over the fitness of striker Isak, who limped off moments after Gordon’s dismissal.
The tie will be played at Wembley on March 16 – with Newcastle aiming to win their first piece of major silverware since they won the FA Cup in 1955.
The men from the north-east progressed after dismantling Arsenal 4-0 on aggregate across two legs in the semi-finals.
Liverpool ensured their place in the final by winning their own semi-final tie against Tottenham by the same scoreline.
