Mohamed Salah is in a different world, according to team-mate Andy Robertson, after the Egyptian scored his 30th of the season in a convincing win for Liverpool over champions Manchester City.
Salah helped Liverpool to their first double over City since the season before Pep Guardiola joined — and he continued to break records, becoming the first player to both score and assist against any reigning champions twice in the same season.
Robertson, who joins Salah in a select bunch of Reds stars who were at the club when they won their first Premier League in 2020, said: ‘He is in a different world right now and playing out of his skin. We are very happy to have him, that’s for sure.
‘I can’t be bothered talking about him to be honest! No, he’s been unbelievable. A set piece routine worked, which is pleasing. Everyone had a role to play and Mo got the glory of putting it in the back of the net. Another goal and assist.
‘His work-rate going back the other way was unbelievable today, him and Lucho (Diaz) and that was key to us keeping a clean sheet.’
Daniel Sturridge, the former striker who played for both of these clubs, went one further on Sky Sports and said: ‘We’re talking Ballon d’Ors now. If (Salah) doesn’t get the Ballon d’Or it’s getting out of hand.’

The club stalwart insisted Salah has been ‘unbelievable’ for Arne Slot’s side this season
Boss Arne Slot was asked if he ever imagined being in such a commanding position but said he never even considered it. ‘You never think like that,’ insisted the Dutchman. ‘If you start somewhere you don’t think where you are in terms of points at the end of the season.
‘What we do know is no one saw us a title contender when we started in the beginning of the season and I think no one in the world of football expected City not to be so close to the one that leads the league if they are not the one that leads the league. But we all know why. They had many injuries. They had a difficult period.’
Meanwhile, Guardiola says Manchester City are ‘far away’ from Liverpool and the gap is only getting bigger. City have won the last four league titles in a row but Arne Slot’s Liverpool look set to run away with this one.
The Catalan said: ‘We are far away from them. That is the reality. We lost, the way we played was really good.
‘The distance in the Premier League is a reality. If you analyse the game today it was really good. I don’t know how many times we arrived at the byline. For nine years, that has been the target of my teams. We just missed being more creative in the final third.’
Erling Haaland did not make the squad due to a knee injury and Guardiola added: ‘I don’t know. I would like to know but I don’t know. His knee – the moment against Newcastle (last weekend) moved the knee.
‘Apparently he’s not injured because the scans dictate that he’s fine but he didn’t feel fine. I have the feeling (his comeback) will be soon because he trained on Saturday and made some good movements but he said he was not ready. Hopefully he can be back for Spurs (on Wednesday).’
