US and UK to host Women’s Football World Cups « Euro Weekly News

Football fever is sweeping the world from London to New York, as both the UK and the US have been all but confirmed as the hosts of the 2031 and 2035 Women’s World Cups.

The beautiful game is coming home – again, and it’s also going to America. But this time, it’s the women’s turn to make history as the UK and US are all but confirmed as hosts the Women’s World Cups in 2031 and 2035.

In a major boost for British football, FIFA president Gianni Infantino has revealed that England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland have submitted the only valid bid to host the 2035 tournament – and with no rivals in sight, it appears to be a done deal in all but name. The United States, meanwhile, will host the 2031 Women’s World Cup.

Infantino, speaking at UEFA’s annual congress in Belgrade, didn’t mince his words:

‘I can confirm that we have received one bid for 2031, and one valid bid for 2035,’ he told delegates.

‘The 2031 bid is from the USA and potentially some other Concacaf nations. The 2035 bid is from Europe, from the Home Nations.’

America becomes great again: Stars and stripes take 2031

While FIFA is expected to confirm both hosts in due course, Infantino’s comments make the outcome all but official. The US is already gearing up for the 2026 men’s World Cup, co-hosted with Canada and Mexico, and is now set to become the first nation to host back-to-back senior World Cups – albeit across genders.

Football’s coming home: A lone goal for the Home Nations

With FIFA’s deadline for bids now passed, the UK’s joint proposal stands unchallenged. While whispers of a joint European-African bid involving Spain, Portugal and Morocco had circulated, the unlikely trio did not lodge a formal application. That has left the Home Nations with a clear run at the title of host nation for 2035.

A historic first for Britain

If rubber-stamped, 2035 will mark the first time the UK has hosted the Women’s World Cup, despite the nation’s long-standing love affair with football. England’s Lionesses captured the public’s heart after winning Euro 2022 on home soil and reaching the final of the 2023 World Cup, and now the next generation could shine in front of home fans once again.

With football’s powerbrokers backing the bid and the tournament calendar set to favour the Home Nations, excitement is already building – even with ten years to go. Expect sold-out stadiums, packed fan zones, and hopefully, a few more trophies in the cabinet.

So, dust off your face paint and mark your calendars – 2035 could be the year the Lionesses roar on home turf.
