Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson Becker said he put in the best performance of his life as Arne Slot’s side put in a defiant defensive performance to get a famous smash-and-grab win in Paris.
Paris Saint-Germain had 27 shots to Liverpool’s two but substitute Harvey Elliott scored 47 seconds after coming on to give his side an 87th-minute lead.
PSG boss Luis Enrique thought Ibrahima Konate should have been sent off for the away side but his team had plenty of chances to score and Liverpool had Alisson to thank for the fact they did not.
The Brazil No 1 said: ‘It was probably the performance of my life. The manager was telling us how hard it would be to play against PSG, how good they are with the ball and that we would have to be ready to suffer. We knew what was coming.
‘We worked hard. We gave away so many chances. All the efforts the team put in makes my job easier. Then at the end Harvey coming in and scoring the goal, it is a great story for us. A great night.’
Former goalkeeping legend Peter Schmeichel added on Alisson: ‘I think this is one of the best goalkeeping displays I’ve ever seen in my life.’
Alisson has admitted his display against PSG on Wednesday was the best of his entire career

The Brazilian recorded nine saves in a game where PSG had 10 shots on target

Alisson’s nine saves against PSG on Tuesday were the most in any of his matches for the club since his arrival in 2018
Slot agreed and said: ‘I have had some very good players as a manager but never the best goalkeeper in the world until now. He showed that he is the best in the world today. To go away with a win here was probably a bit more than we deserved.
‘We’re the lucky ones, that’s clear for everyone. I think they were the much better team today. Especially in the first half, they had a lot of open chances, three or four big, big chances.’
Match-winner Elliott said: ‘I’ve got no words, to be honest. Alisson, he’s unbelievable, the best in the world. Each and every game he shows it, keeps us in so many games. Like tonight, it’s my opportunity to repay this man. Without him, I don’t know where we’d be.
‘It was a great team performance. PSG were creating many chances but obviously thanks to Alisson and the defence, it was a very solid game defensively and it was just down to me to put the opportunity away. Thankfully it went in.’
