‘We Want Them to Pull the Logo’

Meghan Markle’s latest business venture, As Ever, has found itself at the center of an unexpected controversy.

The brand, which recently underwent a rebranding from its initial name, American Riviera Orchard, has come under fire for its new logo—one that bears a striking resemblance to the historic coat of arms of the Spanish town of Porreres, Mallorca.

The issue came to light shortly after Markle unveiled her brand’s emblem.

Locals in Porreres quickly pointed out that the design closely mirrors their town’s official symbol, which dates back to 1370.

Both feature a central palm tree with two birds hovering on either side, a composition that the town’s mayor, Xisca Mora, describes as an “exact copy.”

Concerned about the misuse of their cultural heritage, Mora expressed hope that Markle would reconsider the logo.

Despite the community’s frustration, legal action is not a likely path for the small town.

“To sue for plagiarism is complicated and costly, and a small town council like ours is not in a position to fight against the English crown,” Mora admitted.

The emblem, she emphasized, is an essential part of Porreres’ cultural identity, and residents are unhappy that it may now be associated with a commercial brand.

“Every town in Mallorca has its own symbol, and people are upset that ours is being used to sell products like jam around the world,” she explained.

While the controversy has unexpectedly put Porreres in the global spotlight, residents remain firm in their stance.

“We want them to pull the logo,” Mora insisted.

She also speculated that Markle may have come across the design during a visit to the region, pointing out that the promotional photo on the brand’s website appears to have been taken in Mallorca.

A source close to Markle, however, defended the design, stating that it was inspired by the Duchess and Prince Harry’s home in California.

The palm tree symbolizes their residence, while the hummingbirds hold a sentimental meaning for the couple.

“The distinct shape enclosing the birds and tree was intentionally designed to create a unique and personal emblem,” the source added, emphasizing that extensive trademark searches had been conducted before finalizing the logo.

For the residents of Porreres, the situation remains baffling. Mora admitted that they initially thought the news was a hoax until media outlets began reaching out.

Comparing the two designs, she pointed out their near-identical nature, aside from slight variations in color and bird positioning.

As the debate over the logo continues, one thing is certain—what was meant to be a simple branding move for Markle has turned into an international discussion.
