Princess Leonor’s welcome to the rhythm of batucada

The port of Salvador de Bahia vibrated with the drums of the Pracatum school, a female percussion group that, to the rhythm of the batucada, welcomed the Spanish crew.

Founded by the renowned Brazilian musician Carlinhos Brown, the school has become a symbol of inclusion and community development in the Candeal Pequeño neighborhood of Brotas.

During the meeting, the ship’s midshipmen expressed their appreciation for the warm reception and highlighted the important role played by the Pracatum Social Action Association in education and culture in the area.

Activities and meetings in Brazil

The stay in Salvador de Bahia has not only focused on the festive reception, but has also included a series of official engagements.

Hours after her arrival, Princess Leonor attended a lunch with the Spanish Ambassador to Brazil, María del Mar Fernández-Palacio Carmona, and senior military and diplomatic officials, reaffirming the importance of this trip in bilateral relations.

In addition, in the coming days, citizens who so wish will be able to visit the Juan Sebastián de Elcano and learn about life on board.

As is tradition, a flag swearing in ceremony has been organized for Spaniards living in Brazil, a unique opportunity to connect with their roots and witness the visit of the heiress to the Spanish throne up close.

A trip with historical significance

The stopover in Salvador de Bahia is no coincidence. This year marks the 400th anniversary of the recovery of the city by a Spanish-Portuguese fleet, an event that marked the history of the region.
