Tiger-Cats Secure Agreements with DB Amos and LB Cole II

The 2025 CFL negotiation week has been an overwhelming success with general manager Ted Goveia after he left the Winnipeg Blue Bombers front office. This week, the Tiger-Cats have reached agreements with several free agents, many of whom are from the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.  Wide receiver Kenny Lawler and defensive lineman Miles Fox are just a few of the free agents that the Tiger-Cats are expecting to add to their roster at the start of the free agency period starting on February 11th.

The Tiger-Cat’s most recent free agents that have reached agreements to come to Hamilton are defensive back DaShaun Amos from the Toronto Argonauts and linebacker Brian Cole II from the Blue Bombers, according to reports by 3 Down Nation. Amos should help give the Tiger-Cats one of the defensive backfields in the CFL as he joins Jamal Peters, who the Tiger-Cats signed during the 2024 free agency period. Brian Cole II is also an essential addition to the Tiger-Cats defensive front seven as they are looking for a complementary linebacker to pair with Kyle Wilson.

DeShaun Amos Moves from Toronto to Hamilton

During the 2024 season, Amos played in 18 regular-season games for the Toronto Argonauts, recording 25 tackles and five interceptions, including one interception he returned for a defensive touchdown. Amos also played in all three playoff games for the Argonauts, recovering one fumble and intercepting a pass. While playing for Toronto, Amos helped the Argonauts win two Grey Cup championships.

Before playing for the Argonauts, Amos spent three seasons with the Calgary Stampeders from 2018 until 2021. Amos played in 32 games for the Stampeders, recording 42 tackles and five interceptions, including one for a defensive touchdown. While playing for Calgary, Amos established himself as a defensive back with exceptional coverage skills. Amos also helped the Stampeders win a Grey Cup in 2019. During his CFL career, he has played in 73 games, registering 168 defensive tackles, 16 interceptions, eight special teams tackles, forced one fumble, and scored two defensive touchdowns.

During his professional football career, the 6’0″, 188-pound Amos has also played with the Green Bay Packers and New York Giants in the NFL. Amos played college football at East Carolina University from 2012 until 2016, where he played in 49 games and recorded 116 tackles and one interception for a touchdown.

Brian Cole II is the next Blue Bomber to move east to the Tiger-Cats

Linebacker Brian Cole II will fill an important role for the Tiger-Cats heading into the 2025 CFL season. Before the 2024 season, longtime Tiger-Cats icon Simoni Lawrence retired from the CFL and took an off the field role. Kyle Wilson stepped in as the Tiger-Cats Will linebacker, and had a successful season. Unfortunately, the Tiger-Cats defensive front seven did not have a good season and were unable to consistently stop opponent’s running games.

The Tiger-Cats have addressed some of their defensive problems while signing several defensive lineman, but they were still missing a counterpart for Wilson inside the box. Brian Cole II will come to Hamilton after having three successful seasons playing for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. During the 2024 season, Cole II played in 11 games for the Bombers and recorded a career-high 24 defensive tackles, four special teams tackles, and forced one fumble.

Cole II spent three seasons with Winnipeg from 2022 until 2024, and he has played in 31 games during his CFL career. The 6’1″, 215-pound linebacker moved north to the CFL after being drafted by the Minnesota Vikings in the 7th round of the 2020 NFL Draft, but was unable to fill a role for the Vikings. While Cole II, does not have elite stats for a linebacker he has potential and could be a great fit to play alongside Wilson.
