The City Council of Marín, in Pontevedra, has taken a significant step by proposing that the Princess of Asturias, Leonor de Borbón y Ortiz, be named an adopted daughter of the municipality.
During the plenary session held on Thursday, December 12, the initiative was supported by the PP and PSOE political parties, while the BNG expressed its rejection.

Princess Leonor will be named adopted daughter of Marín
The mayor, María Ramallo, stressed that Marin has a deep bond with the Royal House, cemented in the presence of the Naval Military Academy, where both King Felipe VI in his youth and now Princess Leonor do part of their military training.
According to Ramallo, the municipality considers “a pride” to grant this distinction to the heir to the throne, recalling that a similar honor was granted to Felipe VI in 1986, when he was training as a midshipman in the same locality.

The dossier that supports this proposal was kept exposed for fifteen days on the bulletin board of the City Council and its electronic headquarters, without any allegations being presented.
Although a date has not yet been set for the extraordinary plenary that will formalize this recognition, everything suggests that it will be an event full of symbolism and closeness.
Preparations for the crossing on the Juan Sebastián de Elcano
In parallel, Princess Leonor is getting ready to live one of the most exciting stages of her naval training.
In January of next year, she will embark on the training ship Juan Sebastián de Elcano, where she will make a six-month voyage that will take her to cross seas and various countries.

This experience, an essential part of her 2024/2025 academic year at the Naval Military Academy, combines theory and practice, reflecting the rigor that characterizes the preparation of Spanish Navy officers.
The special connection with her parents
Sources close to the Zarzuela Palace have indicated that King Felipe and Queen Letizia wish to keep in touch with their daughter during the cruise.
Although they strictly respect the rules and military planning of the Academy, they seek regular communication to be aware of how this crucial stage in the life of the heiress is progressing.

“They do not intend to establish privileges, but it is about the future queen of Spain,” said these sources, stressing that King Felipe has always respected the protocols of military training.
